Message about the National Day of Knights of Malta (KMFAP)

To all Knights and Dames of Our Sovereign Order and State

Dear Brothers and Sisters in St. John,

The day of Saint John the Baptist is the National Day of our Federation of Autonomous Priories (KMFAP), as legal and direct descendent of the old Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, whose Knights are also known as the Knights of Malta. But who are we? What are we?

Each and every one of you, each and every one of us, Brothers and Sisters in Saint John, is a different person who speaks a different language, was born under a different Culture, had a different education, does a different work and even calls a different name to the God of us all, however, under the flag of our Sovereign Order and State we are all alike and we are all united. What unite us are not symbols or titles: we are truly united by the same principles and by the common objectives of assisting the ill and the needy without any discrimination, and of contributing to make of this World, a better World for all.

Only when YOU and ME are working together as brothers and as equals for a common objective, guided and united by the same principles, can we speak about US, and we must never forget that our Sovereign Order and State is made by US ALL: us all helping and assisting those who suffer illnesses or are in need, us all united by the same ideals and sharing the same rules of deep respect, profound understanding and tolerance regarding the differences and the different ones, serving with solidarity our fellow men as part of our duty not as part of Charity. Like this, united by the same principles and by the same ideals YOU and ME, under the flag of our Federation, become US.

When we were born, every detail about how to make of this World a better World for everybody had already been written, defined, discussed and even agreed upon, the only thing missing now, after all these years, is to make of this World a better World !!!, and that is also a relevant part our mission, the mission of all of US as Knights and Dames of St. John.

In our times the strong ones fight against each other, for more power and for more money, instead of cooperating with each other and of assisting the more fragile, in a way that we all could have a better life in a better World, in a way that we all could leave, not only a better World for our Children, but also better Children to our World.

In Africa there is a popular saying that goes: "When the elephants fight is the grass who suffers". Our mission is to help the and assist fragile grass while the elephants fight, but it is also to contribute to calm the elephants down.

For almost 1.000 years we have been working to help and assist the ill and the needy, for almost 1.000 years we have been fighting - not to win the War, but to win the Peace -, and now, dear Knights and Dames, rests upon our shoulders the very heavy responsibility of - through our Sovereign Order and State - continuing to honour the glorious memory, the past and the tradition of the Knights of Saint John.

May every day of the year be, in your hearts, a day of Saint John.

MESSAGGIO IN OCCASIONE DELLA FESTA NAZIONALE DELLA KMFAP

A tutti i cavalieri e Dame del Nostro Sovrano Ordine e Stato

Cari Fratelli e Sorelle in San Giovanni, il giorno di San Giovanni Battista é la Festa Nazionale della nostra Federazione dei Priorati Autonomi (KMFAP), diretti e legali discendenti del vecchio Sovrano Ordine di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme, i cui membri sono noti anche come Cavalieri di Malta. Ma chi siamo noi; e cososa siamo?

Ogni e ciasuno di voi, ogni e ciascuno di noi, Fratelli e Sorelle in San Giovanni, siamo persone diverse, che parlano lingue differenti, nati in Paesi di cultura diversa, che hanno avuto una educazione differente, che lavorano in vari campi, e che danno perfino un nome diverso all'unico nostro Dio. Eppure, sotto la bandiera del nostro Sovrano Ordine e Stato, siamo tutti eguali, e per questo ci sentiamo uniti. Ciò che ci unisce non sono i simboli o i titoli, ma il fatto di avere gli stessi principi, il comune obiettivo di assistere gli ammalati ed i bisognosi, senza alcuna discriminazione, nonché il desiderio di contribuire a costruire un mondo migliore per tutti.

Solo quando VOI ed IO lavoriamo insieme, come fratelli e come eguali, per uno stesso obiettivo, guidati ed uniti dagli stessi principi, soltanto allora possiamo chiamarci NOI. E non dobbiamo mai dimenticare che il nostro Ordine e Stato é costituito da TUTTI NOI. Tutti noi che vogliamo assistere coloro che soffrono per malattia o altro, o che necessitano di cose importanti; tutti noi, uniti dagli stessi ideali, condividendo le stesse regole di profondo rispetto per gli altri, e di forte comprensione e tolleranza per le differenze nei confronti degli altri; tutti noi che vogliamo servire con solidarietà i nostri simili come parte di un servizio che sentiamo dentro, e non per senso di Carità. Solo in questo modo, uniti dagli stessi principi e dagli stessi ideali, VOI ed IO, sotto la bandiera della Federazione, diventiamo NOI.

Quando siamo nati era già stato scritto tutto su come fare di questo un Mondo migliore per tutti; era già scritto, definito, discusso e perfino concertato ! Tuttavia, .... la sola cosa che manca ancora, dopo tutti questi anni, é di realzzarlo tale Mondi: di fare cioé di questo un Mondo migliore !!! Per questo il compito di contribuire a farlo costituisce un parte rilevante della missione che tutti NOI, Cavalieri e Dame di San Giovanni, dobbiamo sentire.

Al contrario, assistiamo ogni giorno alla lotta dei forti contro i forti, gli uni contro gli altri; solo per ottenere più potere e più denaro, invece di cooperare tra loro e di aiutare i più fragili a puntare verso un Mondo migliore. E ciò allo scopo non soltanto di lasciare ai nostri figli un Mondo migliore, ma di lasciare Figli migliori per un Mondo migliore.

In Africa c'é un detto popolare che dice "Quando gli elefanti lottano tra loro, chi ne soffre é l'erba". La nostra missione, allora, non é solo di fare qualcosa affinché l'erba calpestata si rafforzi e continui a crescere mentre gli elefanti lottano, ma anche di cercare di calmare gli elefanti perché smettano di lottare. Per quasi 1000 anni abbiamo lavorato per aiutare ed assistere malati e bisognosi; per 1000 anni abbiamo combattuto, non per vincere guerre ma per guadagnare la Pace. Ora, pertanto, cari Cavalieri e Dame, rimane su di noi una grave responsabilità: quella di continuare ad onorare, attraverso il nostro Sovrano Ordine e Stato, la gloriosa memoria, il glorioso passato, e la gloriosa tradizione dei Cavalieri di San Giovanni.

Possa ogni giorno dell'anno essere nei vostri cuori la festa di San Giovanni.
