OBITUARY – Sir Dr. Antonio Balugo Cabué, Knight of Malta, passed away

IN MEMORIAM SIR DR. ANTONIO BALUGO CABUÉ
(1959 - 2024)

Dear Dames and Knights,

it is with deep sorrow that the Magisterial House of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, Federation of the Autonomous Priories (KMFAP) informs all about the decease of our fellow Knight, Sir Dr. Antonio Balugo Cabué. After a very active life, he passed away on the 17th November 2024 in Madrid, Spain, at the age of 65.

Sir Antonio was a renowned Spanish medical doctor and, as a Knight – inaugurated on the 2nd March 2013 in Chateau Bela, Slovakia – his personal commitment and dedication honoured all his KMFAP brothers and sisters.

Sir Antonio's medical profession has led him throughout his entire life to have contact with the most personal and intimate side of society. After practising medicine for a few years in his country, he began to work fully in health planning and management in the field of private medicine and in different autonomous communities of Spain. During these years, Sir Antonio had the pleasure of working actively in the private hospitals considered the largest and highest quality of the Spanish State.
Sir Antonio also served as General Director of the group Hospiquality-Gestitursa, leader in health tourism in various countries of Europe, being one of the founders of this business group, along with his friend Sir Dr. Xavier Palet. Sir Antonio participated as General Secretary of the Red Cross meeting in Baleares and pioneered the introduction of the home telecare system in Spain and the Balearic Islands for the elderly without resources who require immediate medical care.
He was also an active contributor to the foundation NEPP, mainly in the projects developed in Mozambique, and member and founder of Gestitursa Foundation, involved in various projects developed to help groups of marginalized children.

The Magisterial House and the Office of the Prime Minister – on behalf of all the Knights and Dames of our Sovereign Order and State – present their most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Sir Dr. Antonio Balugo Cabué for their tragic loss, which is also a very significant loss for KMFAP.

Requiescat in Pace!
